Well it would seem the catfish scare is over. After a day or two thee rays finally settled down and the catfish settled in. They usually stay out of each others way, but when ghost shrimp are addied in I see who reigns (for the moment) supreme. In that the rays are all over 9" in diameter and the red tails are still about 3", the rays make no hesitation in asserting their presence when such tasty morsels are at stake, boldly pushing the catfish aside Oddly enough though I have yet to see the rays play their "jump the newbie" game with the red tails, a game they often indulged in with both the tiger shovel nose younsters and the perruna cats. all three catfish species display similar fin structure with the spiny leading rays in the pectorals and dorsal, and the tigers seemed far more prone toexaggerated panic modes than the red tails, so I am still at a loss as to why the rays keep their distance from the red tails.
