Of my five rays, my retic was the smallest, but has grown the fastest of the group. He was about the size of yours back in June, and is now about 8-9" across. I haven't really played with this one too much as it lives in my discus tank, which I generally try not to disturb too much. But it thrives on daily feedings of live black worms which it seems to like quite a bit. I too give occaisional diversity with ghost shrimp, which it seems to like even more. From what I've seen, all rays seem to like bubbles. I try to provide a number of sources in each tank with rays. I have found my motoros and lone hystrix will actually line up to get "bubble-washed" with a loose powerhead with airline attached, where I move in a circular manner around the disk with the stream of bubbles, when one is done, the next is ready to move into position. Quite fascinating behaviors these fish display. Of course you may find it disconcerting when they do the "top of the tank" dance it the middle of the night, as it always sounds like it finally made the leap. One of mine did just that, so I'm always a bit cautious to keep the tank level down a bit from the very top. They appear to appriciate some degree of a current, in that they are river fish it makes sence. And you will find that plans for a planted tank will meet with mixed results at best, for they root around continuously, and regularly remove plants they find to be in their way.
