I've heard of both these eels growing to 2ft in less than 2 years although I have seen the resulting specimens, I cannot say that this growth rate is typical.
Evidently lots of food and much water changing takes place.
The only other spiny-eel which reaches the same size as these is the African spiny-eel Caecomastacembelus moorii from Lake Tanganyika, but I wouldn't advise you to get one, as they are very aggressive.
If you look around, you might find that there are a few different colour patterns and variations of the common tyre-track eel (of which there are more than 1 species).
The majority of spiny-eels for sale grow to between 8 and 15 inches.
:How fast do they guys grow?I intend on buying one of each and introducing them into a 125gal. tank at the same time.....plus i want to buy babies......are there any other eels that get as large as the fire eel that can be kept with it?...thank you
