I also purchased the same type of eel and my friend who is a fish expert, he breeds them for a living, came over to my house and told me that it is a tire track eel and that petsmart often mistakens fish and makes up names to make them sound exotic but its only really a fancy name for them.
:I bought this at a Petsmart, only because I've never seen this type of eel before. It was sold under the name of Yellow Tail Eel. The basic background color is yellow with light brown spots all over it's body, but on it's lateral line, the spots are darker. The tail is the weirdest thing however....instead of the large paddle shape tail that most of the eels have, this one has it shaped like a regular fish < it isn't torn or damaged, that's just how the tail fin is shaped. This is not a tire track, fire, peacock, rubber, etc.....I've seen them/had them and this isn't one of them.
:So far, the only thing it's been eating are some live brine shrimp, but I'm getting some small feeders today. Any help on ID'ing this animal will be appreciated!!!
:Thanks!!
