It should be very obvious to you when the fish begin to give birth. At least for the guppies, you'll see a translucent white object appearing from the birthing canal, which will be the tail of the fry. And even if you don't see this, you may see darting and dashing in the tank from the fry being born trying to get to cover.

Concerning the guppies, you can check for other signs that the female is about to give birth. The gravid spot will be large and dark, the female may stay motionless in an area, mine stay near the heater, her colors may be enhanced, more vivid than usual, and they will refuse food, or take in a bit and spit it back out.

Hopefully someone will assist you with more to check on the mollies birthing.

:This may be a strange question, but what does it look like for a live bearing fish to give birth? I have a few fish in my tank (mollie, guppie, redtail sword) that look pregnant, so I have been watching them carefully when stuff comes out of them. Will it be obvious if it is babies and not poop!?!
