gourami problems

I have a 10 gallon aquarium containing one golden gourami and one angelfish.
My PH was initially too low, causing the angelfish to become ill. The gourami
began to pick on the angelfish, and I was advised to keep the gourami in a netbreeder
net until the angelfish recovered. The PH is now fine, and the angelfish is recovering,
but now the gourami is having problems. It has been fine for weeks, even with the PH problems.
Yesterday I stayed at a friend's hosue, and when I left I noticed a small red streak on the
gourami's lower fin. When I returned home today, the gourami had red streaks in its back
and lower fins, and also appears to have fin rot. This problem seems very sudden and I'm not
sure what to do about it. I called the closest (and best) pet store in the area, which is pretty far
away. Usually a particular member of their staff helps me with any fish problems, but
tonight she wasn't there. Another staff member suggested that my fish had a fungus or bacterial
infection, but didn't seem sure about which one. Does anyone have a diagnosis and a treatment?
