I wouldn't ever build, or buy, a tank only 12 inches high. You won't ever see anything inside! Especially a tank 30 inches square. To see the back of the tank you'd have to be perfectly level with the tank. Shallow water fish? Cories will do perfectly well in a 24 inch deep tank. So will gouramis for that matter. One may stay near the bottom, and the other in the upper levels, but that's fine. I've got gouramis in my 90 gallon and some types use the whole depth to swim, others stay mostly in the top 1/2. There's also a betta in there and he uses the whole tank. 24 inches isn't very far for a fish to swim to take a breath.

:I was thinking of building my own aquarium. The dimentions would be: 2 1/2 feet long and wide (square) and 1 foot high. The reason the tank wouldn't be very high is because I wanted to put Cory catfish and gourami's and some other type of fish. Any suggestions ? These fish prefer shalow water. If you have any comments or advice on building, please send them.
