discus spawning

We have a pair of breeding discus. We purchased 4 fish, but they were so aggressive that we sold the 2 non-breeding fish. Before we sold them the breeding pair would spawn every couple of weeks. We finally got the fry to the free swimming stage, but could never keep them for more than a week. Now it is colder (we live in Florida) and they have stopped spawning. The temp. of the tank is 86, but I've increased it to 90. Does change in weather affect tank fishes spawning habits? Any thoughts and/or experience? JR
