If you are keeping large agressive fish with the clowns you should have one so they have some protection , but if you are only keeping clowns and other small fish it wont matter. They are more likely to breed if you have an anemone but have been known to breed without one. My ocellaris were in a tank with two anemones and they preferred to hang around with the sea cucumber instead the were not interested in the anemones at all.Remeber anemones are a bit harder to look after than clown as anemones need a lot of light. The clown will also feed the anemone . Hope that helped a bit!!
