Large Rocks in an aquarium

Nuther nubie question - thanks folks.

I guess I could post this in a general forum too, but I know that cichlid people often decorate mostly with rocks. I like the visual effect of some bigger rocks, but I am a bit nervous setting them on my glass botomed aquarium! I have seen homemade aquariums sitting on a piece of rigid foam to give some protection. In most cases, do people just set the rocks in there and cross their fingers? Is there any lining for the bottom of the tank that would be advisable? It just seems - especially with odd-shaped rocks - that the point-pressure could be very great on the glass.

Thanks

Keegan
