Actually, I don't know if he's a he at all. But anywho....

I have a catfish. He's over two years old and may even be magical, but I'll put that little story at the bottom for mere entertainment purposes. I have more important issues at the moment. You see, my fish Kockisek (Czech for Kitty cat) lives with my newt Vlada. The newt arrived a month after the catfish so they've lived happily for well over two years. But the newt is now bloated and it may have to do with water temperature, which, with this heat was moving up towards 80F. After reading a similar forum for newts, I've found the newt wants to be below 70F. So I need to know if my catfish would be okay with that.

My cat is a maybe about 3 inches long. It's hard to tell as he lives in the Sphinx and I rarely see him. (Sphinx is a decoration, with pyramids and such. Quite large. Appears to be a comfy home for Kockisek.) He's kind of yellowish with blackish brown stripes. I was told he was a Bumblebee catfish when I got him from the pet store, but I don't know how reliable that is.

I want both my water babies to be happy so please, if you can, let me know what kind of fish my fish is and if he can stand water at 70F or below. I'd be very appreciative for the help.

Now the magic story:

One fine evening, I went to feed my fish and noticed a lot of pellets lying wasted at the back entrance to the Sphinx (where he normally eats). I thought, "He must be dead. I'll have to get him out of there." I got the net and picked up the Sphinx. No fish. Odd as he spends 99.9% of his time in that decoration. I picked up the pink thingamajig decoration. Not in there. The big rock. Not under it. The plants. Nope. I looked behind and under the filter, not that he could fit there. No fish. I swear there was no fish in the tank. I couldn't figure it out. I didn't think the newt ate him as he'd had the opportunity (and even a fellow newt to share the meal with a few months back) for well over a year. Newts are known to espcape but not catfish and even if he had grown wings, there's a mesh top over the tank to keep the newt in. So puzzled, I went on with life. I didn't put fish food in the tank since there was no fish.

Three weeks later I went to completely change the tank water and clean the tank and everything in it. I turned off the filter and lifted it out. I took all the decorations out and lo and behold, there he was! Swimming around as fast as ever.
