Is the skin actually broken? If so, you would be best to treat with the anti-bacterial solution. I'm assuming it's an iodine or betadine-type solution, in which case it should be OK but perhaps dilute it or check with your vet first. Covering the wound with vaseline AFTER you've applied the antibiotic will waterproof it and help the antibiotic to work better. I would also ask him what to do about that hole tho. It may need stitching, it is very strange how it is getting bigger. It could just be dead, injured tissue dying off which will re-grow healthy but I would still ask a vet as I've never heard of that before.
