I have been changing the water at 10% weekly. You may be right with the nitrite. The other problem we purchased these at Walmart, which I usually never do. Instictive buying! I am still looking for a good freshwater fish supply store here in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I will wait now several weeks (making sure the cycle has run and everything is stable before any more buying).
