You can't just put them together and expect succesful breeding. Things to consider:

-the fish require several weeks of conditioning- feeding lots of high quality high protein foods (preferably live foods) Improperly conditioned fish are less likely to breed, and if they do, the fry will likely be weaker.

-you need a bare bottomed ten gallon tank, proper filtration, proper heating

-you need food to feed the fry, and it needs to be live food, like microworms, baby brine shrimp, vinegar eels, or grindal worms. You cannot feed them powdered or crushed fish food, and they are entirely too small to eat any of the food your regular bettas eat

-you need to be prepared to house up to 300 young bettas seperately.

These are just the very first things you have to consider. It can get quite costly, takes a lot of time, and is not the easiest thing in the world to do. Until you do a lot more research, figure things out, and make the investment in the foods and equipment you'll need, keep your bettas away from each other.

Even if you get a little spawn out of this, without proper foods and preparation it will ultimately fail.

If you want more information, I have a nice little summary of "breeding lessons" that's simply TOO long to post here (and it's formatted and does not copy very well), feel free to email me for it (click on my name above my post, it has my email)
