The coral will be nice in an aquarium, but it will affect the water parameters....coral is a natural buffer and will make your water hard..people who keep african cichlids and other fish that require a high PH like to use crushed coral because it keeps the PH at a stable high level...usually 7.8 or higher. Make sure whatever fish you keep like neutral to high PH - that is 7.0 or up...I believe goldfish like softer, acidic water, so the coral may be a no-no with goldies. Cichlids of all kinds like hard, alkaline water, as do mollies (but you cant keep mollies and cichlids together). The best advice I can give you would be tp research different types of fish and what their water requirements are. As far as cleaning the coral, and keeping it free from algae, I would just recommend a pleco. It should eat the algae right off of the coral. Dont use chemical algae killers, most of the time they dont work anyway. Good luck!
