Hi,
I have heard of this before. I believe They are whats called
Food mites, they are attracted to areas where it is damp or wet an were tiny particles of food are present. They congragate where it is moist, warm and where there is plenty of food.
I have heard that they can cause intestinal irritation in many types of animals, including these frogs.
Here is something about the mites I think they might be:
Psocids and mites are extremely small pests which usually occur only when foods are stored under damp conditions(??). Although their small size may make detection difficult if only a few are present within the product, when conditions are ideal their numbers increase substantially , and the surface of the food product or area around will appear to "move".
I have had problems with these mites in Tetra Reptomin sticks.
To get rid of them you should boil everything and vacuum around the tank with high suction then spray the area around the tank with a disinfectant. When you put the frogs back into their nice clean boiled aquarium you should not replace the old water that is with them, just the frogs.
What I have described above is what I believe them to be, I may not be right, other people may have other views.
Hope this helps,
clawedfrogs.
