<1) Are you able to edit out posts, rather than delete them outright on this forum? That way, you could leave up the non-violating part of a mixed msg, and also issue a warning so that the poster knows what he/she did wrong for future reference.>
At this time we do not have much we can do. However, a new board system is right around the corner. Matter of fact we are beta-testing right now. I seriously doubt if much editing will ever be allowed because we feel strongly on the other side that if something has your name on it, it should be your post and not something edited by someone else. Does that make sense?
<2) If I were just to chat about something off-topic with my friend, but post a link to an outside site, would that count as advertizing? There are many boards allow for this, even tightly moderated ones, which is why I ask>>
It is allowed here as long as it is not the main purpose of the post or not overdone.
<<3) Do you have a written policy on when a user is banned? For example, "User ignores warning about rule violation 3 times". I am asking because 2 of my friends claim they were banned from this board, and they are still unsure exactly rule it was that they violated. >
There is not a written rule about banning but I can assure you that we only do it as a last resort. Hosts cannot do it and only PHChristy and myself ban folks these days. Please remember that some folks have a convenient memory and "never" understand why they were banned. And the reasons they come up with are filtered thru their eyes and usually not exactly why they were banned.
All banning can be appealed and we also listen to requests for reinstatement. Banning is a last resort and we would prefer to educate the person and keep them as a poster. I recently reinstated someone that had been banned a long time ago. So it is not unheard of. A lot depends on the infraction.
We are very much aware about Acme and that things were more lax there. But as with any change, we have different rules. They are not that restrictive and really just make good sense. We welcomed the immigrants and even gave you a place you asked for to post off-topic. We are trying. And as for showing more tolerance, we didn't go off screaming and banning people. We tried to educate. We are not going to change our rules but we will try to work with you if you will work with us.
