::Ok,
::What happened after I took a consencus of advice was that I planned to move Lady to a larger tank, over the course of this move, she tried to lay eggs on the full moon. She was still heavy with eggs when I found her, with a pink protrusion that looks altogether different than the way her parts looked before when she was breeding last time. Help? She appears to want to eat and is stil very much fighting, but she does swim upside down sometimes...she passed some curly waste yesterday which I found a good sign, and I have given her Aloe Vera solution to help the stool, as well as throwing in Aquari Sol and Fungus Eliminator (Which works on Dropsy), But it is this pink protrusion that looks like a large anus which I am most worried about...has anyone seen this ...is it a symptom of being "Egg Bound" and is it still possible to treat her? ANY EMERGENCY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks so much, your adoring fan J p.s. She is still heavy with eggs. Is there a way I can "massage" them out of her? HELP!!!
:
:The ovipositor can look pretty large, especially right when the angel is laying eggs.
:Do not attempt to "massage the eggs out" or strip the eggs. That will kill the fish. Angels do not take kindly to rough treatment when loaded with eggs.
:As to treatment, it's difficult to state do this and the fish will recover. It's possible the fish is to far gone already as swimming upside-down is definately a sign of distress. I'd try massive water changes, and raise the temperature at 82-84 degF (28-29 deg C) (It doesn't matter much what you pH is as long as it is STABLE. Changing pH greatly stresses angels)
:The elevated temperatures & large water changes will help support the immune system of the fish, I don't usually try much else. You need to know what bacteria is causing the problem (if bacterial) before throwing any antibiotics at it. Otherwise you'll just increase the resistance of all the other bacteria to the antibioitic you used. As long as the fish is eating, there is hope.
:(Wholesaler I'm selling to reports that most of the common fish antibiotics are currently having little or no effect on the targeted pathogens. A disturbing report at best. We're reaping the results of antibiotics overuse IMO.)
:People may be getting better results from following the water change instructions on the antibiotics package than by actually using the medications.
:
Try putting some fresh aloe vera straight into the tank. Squeeze the inside of a small leaf into the tank and swirl around to distribute and dissolve. It has fixed so many problems in my fish that I have had from time to time, it is amazing.
