:What would be some good tankmates for a single angel? i was thinking maybe a school of neons and some cories?
I have 1 angelfish in a 29 gallon tank. It's helped me to avoid spawning and territorial problems and has given him plenty of space to grow. I would stay away from neons. Neon tetras are one of the angelfish's natural prey in the wild and young neons could be viewed as an expensive feeder fish for your angels. :) Smaller fish like guppies, neons, and cardinal tetras could be lunch. It doesn't always happen, but it's such a frequent occurance that it's become a general warning.
Angels are fairly slow moving and shy. It can be a good idea to have some dither fish in the tank. Medium sized tetras tend to work well, like diamonds, emperors, black/white skirts, phantoms. Glowlights and bleeding heart tetras are quite stunning in small schools of 6-8. Lots of different tetras to pick from if you want to go that route and they're beautiful fish. Cory cats are fantastic too, I would recommend them to anyone with a tropical tank. They're active little schoolers that are fun to watch and take care of the uneaten food. Mystery snails are nice too, imo and will help with algae and leftovers.
Just stay away from anything small enough to fit into their mouths as well as fin nippers. Nothing long finned either, like bettas. Angels are both nippers and nippees. :D If you get tetras or any type of schooling fish, try to get at least 5. The more you have, the more likely they are to chase eachother and ignore your angel. ;)
Good luck with the tank. :)
