It sounds to me like the tank is overpopulated. It could be stress:( . If so try to get another tank. (About 15 gallons). Make sure that the angelfish have someplace to hide. If they don't they can become even more stressed. Did the lady use a water softener or pH regulator? Angelfish need a pH of about 6.5-7.0
:Thanks again for the thoughts. I think I will give them another few days with my fingers crossed. I should be able to get into town to a petstore by then, and get a good anti-biotic. Is it possible that this is an infection of the gill, not allowing them to gas exchange properly? That is sort of what I first suspected.
:I have no clue on thier history or how old they are - I just bought them from a lady who was moving - the two angels, with 2 6" jewel cichlids, an 8" pleco, a synodontis (I think) catfish, and a barb of some sort, all in a 25g tank! (Have split them up since!)
:Something I didn't mention before: my water IS quite hard. However, the lady who I got them from also had hard water... so I don't know.
:I got them about 3 weeks ago, and they had over 1 hr drive (bagged individually) which was probably stressful - however, they seemed very healthy, and swam and ate vigorously for the first 2 weeks or so.
:Thanks again for the time, I'll stay in touch.
:Odd thought: I was at Petland yesterday and noticed young angels for $7 each - the work and money I put into trying to save one fish could repopulate my aquarium with new ones.... but that's not really the point is it!? *L*
