Thanks both of you for the advice.
I have now isolated both of them in a 27g, completely bare aquarium, with a small external filter and a weak airstone - hopefully there will be less stress with the very slight current, lots of water, and lack of other fish.
I don't think they are full grown, they are perhaps 5" max, nose to tail.
I cannot see any parasites, or anything coming from the anus.
The scales seem normal. They were eating very well before sickness (spirulina flakes, cichlid pellets, occasional live daphnia), now they are less interested, but still seem to eat a bit. I do not have access to blackworms (not even frozen) I bought some frozen mysis shrimp, which are supposed to be healthy and stimulate feeding. My other fish went crazy for them, the angels were pretty uninterested. At least the tank is now bare, so it will be easy to siphon off the uneatens...
I fear we may be too late for the one fish... he continues to have labored breathing, his fins are droopy and increasingly near his body, and he cannot swim upright... sometimes is seen laying almost flat on the bottom.
The second fish is now starting to show symptoms like his early ones - working his mouth and gills all the time...
I will post on another angelfish forum as well, thanks for your help, and for any other advice you may have...
