I've had pairs that have been perfect parents from the first spawn, and I have a pair that I recorded 22 spawns that they ate before settling into raising their young (I had enough Koi angels and was hoping to sell that pair, I kept them instead)

Most pairs will eat their first few spawns. And once they start to breed, they'll spawn on a 7-21 day cycle. It up to the fish (and your care of them) to determine how often they spawn.

Some breeders will pull the slate, PVC pipe, etc. and artificially raise the fry. Others will allow the fish to parent raise.
