:It's very subtle. And even experienced Angelfish breeders have been known to guess wrong. The only certain way to tell is when they spawn. The breeding "tubes" will be displayed, and the female will be much larger and wider than the male. The male usually has a small pin point tube.

:With juveniles, the males will typically grow a little faster. However, that is just within a single spawn and is not 100% certain.

Just as a follow-up. I have an Albino Pearlscale in my singles tank that I would have sworn was a male last week. The fish laid eggs last night. Just shows that you don't know what they are until they breed.
