Hello tara, if you`re just setting up the aquarium you can just mix the instant ocean as you setup, but if your aquarium is already setup and this is to do a water change then by all means mix it days in advance for if you mix the salt to use that same day it`ll cause your aquariums water to be cloudy so mix in a pail and when your ready to use this mix be sure to not disturb the bottom for salt will settle at the bottom.
